The aim of the service is to improve the condition of private sector housing and to regenerate local areas by providing services that meet local and individual needs. The service provides grants for physical improvements to private sector stock and environment, mainly in targeted areas. In addition targetted areas are supported through Local Community Planning and through Urban Care and Neighbourhood Centres (U-CAN Centres).
The service includes the following:
Group Repair Scheme - for the external refurbishment of a group of properties.
Renovation Grant - for the internal and the external improvement of a property.
Staying Put Scheme - for minor improvements to enable an elderly person to remain in their property.
Exception Case Grant - an individual grant for a property outside targeted areas.
Houses in Multiple Occupation Grant - a grant to improve the fire escape and basic facilities within houses in multiple occupation.
Selective Clearance/ Remodelling - the removal of pockets of unfit or obsolete housing incapable of being made fit or made useful at reasonable expense.
Environmental Schemes - external schemes to improve how an area looks and to make safety improvements.
U-CAN Centres - centres placed within the local community to provide lasting improvments in renewal areas both during and after physical work.
Working with privat landlords and Registered Social Landlords (Housing Associations).
Our Service Standards To You
Private Sector Renewal:
- All schemes will be completed by an a agreed date. We will advise customers of the agreed completion dates before starting work on each scheme.
- Within 10 working days of a completion date changing, customers will be informed of any extension to the agreed completion date. We will inform customers of any changes to the completion date for the scheme and the reasons for the change.
- Each scheme will have a named contact person. Should the named contact person change, we will notify the customer within 10 working days.
Disability Grants and Adaptations:
- Within 10 working days of receiving a request we will send you a disabilities facilities information pack.
- Within 6 months all successful disability facilities grant applications will receive formal notification of grant approval.
-Within 5 working days from receipt of an enquiry form, we will notify the customer of their priority status for an assessment visit. The customer is given a priority emergency, urgent or standard and the assesssment visit will take place within;
* 5 working days for an emergency priority assessment visit
* 10 working days for an urgent priority assessment visit
* 18 months for a standard priority assessment visit.
